Business Mentor: Professor Richard Scase

Professor Scase has been advising business start-ups for more than 30 years. He has been a director of start up programmes at Kent University advising would be entrepreneurs how to prepare business plans. He is currently working with Chinese business leaders at Oxford University on their strategies for growth, developing their product portfolios and growing market share.

He is not only a small business adviser but also an entrepreneur in his own right. He is founder of the Kent radio station now known as Heart FM and also of an online accountancy training company until he sold his share stake last year. As a mentor, he helps entrepreneurs with developing business plans with a particular emphasis on branding, marketing and driving traffic to company websites.

Innovative Sector Exchange (ISE) Project

The new Innovative Sector Exchange (ISE) project is part financed by the EU Funded Interreg 5A 2 Seas Programme.

It will provide support to Kent businesses helping them innovate and internationalise through partnering and collaborating with new contacts in France, Belgium & the Netherlands. The project runs from 2016 to 2019.

Who can take part in the ISE project?

SMEs in Kent which are keen to innovate and to internationalise their business. The project will focus on supporting companies from the following sectors:

  • Agri-Food
  • Digital & Creative
  • New Materials
  • Mechatronics (engineering)

The Kent IT Consultancy

University of Kent students, supporting local businesses to be more digital

The KITC (Kent IT Consultancy) was founded in October 2004, and is part of the School of Computing at the University of Kent. All of students are at the University situated at both the Canterbury and Medway campuses.

Many of our consultants have completed industrial placements at major companies such as Intel, IBM and Microsoft, giving them significant experience in both business and technical roles.

All relationships between the KITC consultants and their clients are managed by full time IT professionals and are closely mentored by staff members of the School of Computing.

The KITC’s mission is to solve business problems for local start-ups and small business, as well as making our student consultants more employable.
