Notice of business event charges

For over a decade Canterbury City Council’s Business Development team has organised and funded free to attend business support workshops, seminars, masterclasses and networking events for businesses in the Canterbury district. Changes in Central Government and the rise in the need for local councils to be more responsible for their own budget management has led us to operate in line with a stronger commercial focus. With this in mind we are introducing a new online events booking system and charges for our business events. We believe with the right pricing policy our events will continue to give value for money.

We are mindful that after a decade of free events this might come as a surprise but with changing times we ourselves need to be as cost neutral as possible with our event management.

Free Bicycles for Kent Workplaces & Schools

If you work or study in Kent and would like access to free bicycles to try cycling to and from work/education, then this new cycle loan scheme could be for you!

Recently launched by Kent County Council, the new cycle loan scheme provides free access to refurbished cycles with the aim of promoting active and sustainable methods of travel to and from work and/or education.

The cycles are provided through Cycle Community, a Community Interest Company, who take unwanted cycles and refurbish them to be used by the local community.

An exciting shopping experience in Herne Bay on the second Sunday of every month!

Come and meet a host of traders, local and guest producers. There truly is something for everyone, shoppers can pick up a diverse selection of authentic products, watch chefs create delicious dishes and chat with the producers directly. The market will have different seasonal themes throughout the year!

Kent Enterprise Trust Job Club

Kent Enterprise Trust is pleased to announce that we have been funded to run a new Job Club to provide one to one support to people in Herne Bay to help them overcome their individual challenges to employment through support, opportunities and training to develop their full potential.

Funding received from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will enable us to provide a service between Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10am until 2pm from Monday 04th September 2017 until 31st March 2018.

The support will include CV writing, individual travel plans for those with anxiety to travel to new places and personal evacuation plans for those with disabilities.

Our rooms start small enough for personal discussions and range up to break out areas for group work and a presentation space that can seat up to 20 people.

The rooms can be set up in a variety of layouts, our standard set ups are boardroom, cabaret, horseshoe, teaching rows and clear area. If you are unsure how you would like the room set up or have a specific layout in mind our friendly staff will discuss the options with you to help your event run smoothly.

Internet access during your event is free and equipment like projector, screen, flipcharts and hearing loops are available to hire should you require them,

Herne Bay Football Club – Corporate Membership

Herne Bay Football Club Community Interest Company would be delighted to receive your application for corporate membership. Your agreement to do this would assist your local club to continue providing a good level of Non-League football to the Herne Bay community, as well as providing Youth, Ladies and Over 50’s (Walking Football) similarly.

There is a danger that should the club not be able to raise income then it could easily cease operating. This would be a tragedy for a local club that has been around in one guise or another since 1886.

Membership Fees:

Corporate Membership joining fee £500.00 to cover membership until the end of the 2017-2018 season. Thereafter annual membership fee of £50.00.

Get a boost from The Green Commute Initiative

Anyone who’s actually ridden an e-bike will tell you they are enormous fun and make a non sweaty commute in normal clothes possible. Hills and distance are no problem and you’ll always have the legs for the ride home even after a long day at work.

Quality e-bikes aren’t cheap and for reliable everyday commuting you’re looking at £1,200 upwards. Local reseller BIKETART is delivering the Green Commute Initiative which has just launched. Unlike previous cycle to work schemes there is no £1,000 limit making e-bikes possible and there are no end of scheme fees to reduce employee savings. It’s also normally possible to finance the scheme so employers don’t need to find any cash and employers can also make tax savings.

Employees can still save up to 42% and pay monthly making a £1,200 bike as little as £29 per month, less than many commuters already pay. Rob Howes, Managing Director of the Green Commute Initiative said “We want more commuters to enjoy the freedom of e-bike commuting instead of horrible, frustrating car journeys. Academic research shows people who have an e-bike use their cars 20% less and that can only be a good thing.

Better air quality and less congestion benefits everyone and although the majority of use should be commuting, e-bikes are really fun for leisure time and at weekends. “Gabor Horvath from BIKETART said “e-bike usage is huge on the continent. Our local terrain with its short sharp hills is even more suited to e-bike commuting. Our e-bike designs are really slick and since you can wear normal clothes you’ll arrive looking very cool and stylish. No need for lycra or getting hot and sweaty!

South East Business Boost – South East of England

The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) focuses on supporting business competitiveness, creating jobs, investment in research and innovation, and the low carbon economy. South East Business Boost is an ERDF funded project.

South East Business Boost is an ‘enhanced’ business support service for SMEs, providing in-depth, specialist business support activities tailored to meet the individual needs of different business communities. The programme will offer targeted and bespoke 1:2:1 and 1:2:many support activities, workshops and events, provision of a grants programme, and the development of ‘super local’ business networks.

Business support and guidance is available to all stages of business (including those not yet trading). Growth grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 are only available to eligible trading businesses. The grant can fund up to 30% of the total cost of goods or services related to increasing sales, improving productivity and increasing profitability.
